I am combining this weekends entries, I don’t know if that will be a regular thing on the weekends or just this weekend.

Saturday was a great day, I did not accomplish near as much as I wanted to but what did happen was Awesome, Mind blowing  Fantastic, let’s see how many more words can I find LOL. Left the house about 9:30am to go and have coffee with Sister Lisa Cadue. Was to meet her about 11:00 A.M. but i like to chill for an hour alone, in morning so got there about 10. Well who was entering the other doors of Tim Horton‘s Donuts at Princess & MacDonell but my Mom (Margaret Little (Heyman)  and Step Father (Ron Little) . I have not seen them in many month’s, but that is something we intend to change. I am going to return to going for coffee with them at least once or twice a week. As some know from reading other pages, I did not have a close relationship with my mother growing up since I was raised by my Grandmother on my father’s side. And at other times raised by my father. So therefore my relationship with my Mother suffered,  In the last few years since I have been with Brenda that has changed, I have had many opportunities to spend time with Mom and my Step-Father Ron, and it makes my heart leap with joy each time we reconnect. We sat down together and speant about an hour an a half together, discussing everything from how our lives were going to what Pow Wow‘s I should attend to enjoy my heritage. And I will also be going to Wednesday night drumming with Dad (Ron). Ron and Mom are going to help me get to know my roots, My Native Ancestry   Some of the happiest memories I have of the last seven years of my life were when Bren and I would meet them for coffee at Tim Horton’s Donuts , and Ron and I would go for our walks after coffee. We enjoy playfully bugging each other, we both enjoy it.  And if that was not great enough I got home to check my email to find that a wonderful person at the Tweed Heritage Evan Morton, Curator. Evan searched through old clippings and found one from July 23,1942 That is the announcement of the Marriage of John Marlin & Rose Ann McAllister (My Grandfather and My Grandmother) It is an amazing find that is invaluable to me.  So Saturday could not have gone any better for me.

Sunday has been a good day as well, I went for coffee this morning with my Sister Lisa Cadue, And we managed to go all the way through Coffee without discussing Idle No More. Idle No More is an important movement and it is an important part of both Lisa’s and My Life. But I feel it is necessary for my mental health, the mental health of my sister and of everyone involved in a movement such as this that you have time where you get to step back and just be Lisa, or Mike or whoever you are.  We chatted about our family, our lives etc. While we waited for Manasie Ipeelee we joked shared story’s, laughs, and just bonded.

After coffee I went for a walk and came across a Hawk or should I say a Hawk came across me, I believe it is a Buteo jamaicensis  commonly known as  Red-Tailed Hawk. Before you ask why the hell is this important enough to type out, let alone read, let me explain. It’s not like I was wandering along and saw a hawk and said “Oh look it’s a Hawk” and just kept going and never saw it again. This thing was waiting in a tree for me it seemed, and it followed me with it’s eyes as I walked. When I was some distance away, and it was only a speck in the tree to me it took to flight and landed in a tree ahead of me. Continuing it’s observation of me. This process repeated itself a few times.  After about 45-60 minutes of walking I decided I had reached my half way point, circled around and headed back, So did the Hawk.  It escorted me to a point about five minutes from my house, where it returned to the tree I first observed it in. I don’t know if it’s the tree it first saw me in, but it is the one I first noticed it in. I have never had an experience like that in my life, I don’t know if it thought i was a big mcDouble hamburger , or maybe it was just bored today. It is something I think I will speak to Elder David Jock about on Thursday at the Men’s Drumming Group. I don’t want to read anything into it until After I speak to him. It is too easy to self delude oneself.

Well that is all for today, I leave  you with the following pic’s etc. (The Hawk Picture is just a Internet Picture. It is not The Hawk I saw today.)

  1. It sounds as though you had a great weekend! I’m impressed that you were able to identify the hawk – I wouldn’t have had a clue! (And I’m sure it was with you for a reason :) )

  2. Mike Marlin says:

Identifying the Hawk was not hard, I drove my spouse crazy couple years ago when I started the bird feeder, With my constant “Hey Hun what is this type of bird, ” over and over so she bought me “The ROM Field GuideTo Birds Of Ontario:” The ROM stands for Royal Ontario Musuem . I would love to be able to claim I knew it was a Red Tailed Hawk either through being some super smart type, or due to my Native Blood. But the truth is much more mundane, My spouse wanted to shut me up about constantly bugging her on what type of bird something was so she got me the book LOL. Thanks for reading.
